Editor's Note: Today's product review comes to us from longtime Bluestockings supporter Jess Bean, a family therapist and self-described "femme-enthusiast living in the Paris of the East." There's been a ton of customer interest in the Imogen Bra, but (as per usual with underwire bras at an online store) lots of questions about fit, so when Jess offered to review her Imogen set, I almost peed my pants.
And with that, here's Jess' rad review:
A few things before this review gets started: I am infatuated with the Imogen bra/panty set. I feel like a total pin-up when I’m wearing it.
Another thing: I am not a lingerie blogger! Up until fairly recently, I had exactly one (count it: one) bra from Macy’s that I wore every day. Fancy lingerie is new territory for me.
That being said, Bluestockings has opened up a whole new world of ethically-produced underpants and I’m loving it! I bought this set from Bluestockings with my own money.
The Imogen Button Bra
I’ve been asking Bluestockings to stock a full-coverage lined bra since they opened. I wanted something I could wear under work clothes.
This bra passed my most important challenge: the Freezing Cold Office test. (No nipple show-through!)
There’s a push-up quality to the Imogen. Although it doesn’t give me Wonderbra-esque cleavage, my boobs are definitely higher than usual when I wear it. The seamed cups provide a silhouette that I like because it’s slightly conical. I love cup shapes that aren’t as smooth as a tee-shirt bra’s.
I loathe a lot of black “satin” lingerie because I think it can look cheap. However, I adore the silky material that the Imogen is made from. This is some class-act polyester! The material is a deep black that looks both conservative and provocative. When I wear this bra, I feel like the identical twin to my girlfriend’s cat Bubby, who is also very beautiful, powerful, and sleek, with a shiny jet-black coat.
The mesh in the back adds edge. The button in the front adds 1930s fancy-dress FEELINGS.
I wear a 34E in Claudette and the 34E Imogen bra (Playful Promises) fit me pretty well. The straps feel more wide-set than my other bras. One occasionally slips down my shoulder, despite adjustments. But I’m new to bra sizing and wonder if perhaps going down a cup size might make this fit slightly better. This is the difficulty of buying online!
The Imogen Button Brief
More on sizing: I bought a medium but perhaps I should have bought a large. I am most consistently a size 8 in US pant sizes, so I usually go for a medium. The fit *feels* comfortable with these, but the pictures reminded me that they’re a bit tight around my hips. The Imogen knickers are not full-coverage, and do not make my butt look any rounder than it is (which is my goal).
There are two keyhole openings in the back, with three more buttons, and I think they are so darn cute. The design feels both saucy and fancy at the same time.
In short: it’s a matching set that helps me feel like a bombshell WHILE ALSO helping me look professional at work. What more could a girl ask for?
